PROFILE
A versatile and reliable defender/midfielder, Andy Rose returned to MLS in 2019 after having spent the previous three years with English Football League One club Coventry City and Scottish Premiership side Motherwell. He previously spent four seasons Seattle Sounders FC from 2012 to 2015.
Whitecaps FC acquired his MLS rights from Sounders FC in exchange for $50,000 of General Allocation Money in December 2018.
In 2021, Rose was also named assistant coach for the club's BMO MLS Academy U-19 team.Â
WHITECAPS FC
2020: Rose made 10 starts and 13 assists in his second season in Vancouver, while also contributing one assist. All but one start saw him line up at centre back where he helped guide a young backline, as he finished tied for second on the team with 1.16 blocks per 90 minutes. 2019: Seeing time in midfield as well as at centre back, Rose made an MLS career-high 20 starts in 24 appearances, collecting a game-winner at Colorado Rapids on May 3, and an added-time equalizing assist at FC Dallas on June 26. He also started both of the 'Caps two Canadian Championship matches.
MOTHERWELL F.C.
2017-18: Rose joined Motherwell in June 2017, scoring two goals in 30 starts and 38 Scottish Premiership league appearances as of December 10. In other competition, Rose also made a combined 13 starts and 17 appearances in The Scottish League Cup and FA Cup.
COVENTRY CITY FC
2016-17: Rose moved back home to the United Kingdom in 2016 and joined Coventry City. In his two EFL League One seasons, Rose scored four goals in 26 starts and 33 appearances. He scored one goal in his combined six starts and seven appearances in League Cup, FA Cup, and EFL Trophy competition - the latter of which Coventry City won in 2017.
SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC
2012-15: After being selected sixth overall in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft by Real Salt Lake, Rose was traded to Seattle Sounders FC in exchange for Leone Cruz. Rose went on to tally five goals and seven assists in 42 starts and 82 appearances in his four MLS regular seasons with Seattle. In addition, he also made three starts in eight MLS Cup Playoffs matches for Sounders FC. In Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play, Rose scored four goals in nine starts and appearances, helping Seattle hoist the trophy in 2014. He also scored a goal in his four starts and seven appearances for Seattle in the Concacaf Champions League.
COLLEGE
2008-11: Rose recorded five goals and 11 assists in 73 starts and 81 appearances in his four years at UCLA, earning all-conference first-team honours in his final two seasons, while serving as team captain as a junior and as a senior. In between his college seasons, Rose also featured for USL Premier Development League sides Seattle Wolves in 2009 and Ventura County Fusion in 2010 to 2011.
YOUTH
Rose developed within the Bristol City FC academy system, and was captain for his U-16 and U-18 teams.
ADDITIONAL NOTES Rose was born in Melbourne, Australia to English parents, and grew up in Bristol, England. He also lived in Chicago for six years during his childhood. Rose’s wife Ryan is the daughter of LAFC manager Bob Bradley, and sister of Toronto FC midfielder Michael. Rose holds a UEFA A Licence and UEFA A Elite Youth Licence.
