TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Re-signed
The Vancouver Whitecaps have re-signed center back/midfielder Andy Rose for the 2021 season, the club announced Wednesday.
The 30-year-old is entering his seventh MLS season, having spent 2012-15 with the Seattle Sounders and then the last two years with Vancouver. He also played overseas for Coventry City and Motherwell FC, leading to 241 first-team appearances as he enters one decade as a professional.
"Andy is a consummate professional and a mentor to our young players,” Vancouver head coach Marc Dos Santos said in a club release. “As a member of the senior leadership group, Andy helps set the tone by his willingness to help the club wherever needed. We are very pleased Andy will continue to be a member of our club.”
Rose has featured in 119 MLS matches (72 starts), scoring six goals and supplying nine assists. Born in Australia and raised in England, he played for Bristol City’s youth teams before playing collegiately at UCLA.
Aside from playing for the first team, Rose will also be Vancouver's U-19 academy team’s assistant coach alongside Nick Dasovic. Rose has already earned his UEFA A and UEFA A Elite Youth licenses.
“I couldn’t be more excited to continue my career here in Vancouver,” Rose said in a release. “I’m really enthusiastic about the path we’re on as a team and am motivated to give our fans a season they can get behind. I’m also excited to begin working with our U-19 group and thank the club for giving me the opportunity to gain valuable coaching experience. I think we’ve got some excellent young players and I’ll do everything in my power to advance their careers.”
