The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed midfielder Andy Rose after acquiring his rights from the Seattle Sounders in exchange for $50,000 of General Allocation Money, the clubs announced Monday.
After spending the last three-plus seasons in the UK, most recently at Motherwell of the Scottish Premier League, the 28-year-old Rose has inked a two-year deal with the Whitecaps with a club option for a third season.
“Thinking about the culture, the team, and the spirit we want to create, Andy is a great team guy who is going to show up every day,” Whitecaps coach Marc Dos Santos said in a statement. “He has experience in the league and abroad and he can play any of the midfield positions. You need players like Andy on your roster.”
Rose hasn't played in MLS since 2015, and had made eight starts for Motherwell this season. In total, the former UCLA man made 82 MLS appearances — 42 starts — between 2012 and 2015. As a US green card holder, he would not count toward an international roster spot.
