The group leading St. Louis into Major League Soccer made their stadium renderings official a month ago, releasing a video of the design and how the various elements could come together.
While they're just renderings, the overall footprint in the heart of Downtown West is drawing plenty of buzz ahead of 2022:
St. Louis' MLS stadium plans have gotten bigger and they include a nearby practice facility and new roof, according to the St. Louis Dispatch. They were officially awarded an expansion team in August and will begin play in MLS in 2022.
Their downtown venue, a $250-million-plus plan for a 22,500-seat stadium, will now contain practice fields and a team headquarters next to the stadium. The land is currently occupied by highway ramps, parking lots and some private businesses.
The architectural stadium partners, Snow Kreilich Architects and St. Louis-based HOK, unveiled stadium renderings in April.
The proposed stadium plans include a promise that every seat will be within 120 feet of the field, as well as a translucent canopy that will provide cover covering for the fans while allowing light to reach the field. The design will be open to the north and east, which according to the proposal is intended to create "a strong visual connection to the surrounding Downtown West District and surrounding neighborhood."
