UPDATED at 11 am ET on Dec. 21:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With Wednesday's announcement of Nashville as Major League Soccer's newest expansion city, rising alone from four finalists who presented to the league's expansion committee on Dec. 6, Commissioner Don Garber clarified that more news could be on the way.
"Tomorrow, we're going to announce what our timing is to name the second expansion team that'll join Nashville. We are also making a lot of progress in Miami, and we're hopeful that we're going to be able to bring that team over the finish line. That will bring three new teams into the league and we need to figure out how we're going to stage those teams."
Garber indicated that no team will join newcomer LAFC as an on-field expansion club for 2018, though 2019 represents a possibility, with the remaining pair of teams potentially opening in 2020 or 2021.
