Major League Soccer could be announcing its 20th club before the end of May, according to Commissioner Don Garber, and it may well be the long-desired second club in New York City.

So said the Commissioner during a chat with reporters at halftime of Wednesday night's Toronto-Montreal Amway Canadian Championship match at BMO Field.

"We are deeply engaged with potential ownership groups and we're hopeful to be able to announce a 20th team within the next [four to six weeks]," Garber said.

Garber had, in February during his March to Soccer address, said he'd hoped for something definitive on an expansion franchise in Queens, N.Y., by the end of 2013. He made clear once again on Wednesday that project continued to be the focus.

"We're making progress," Garber said of talks with New York City. "We continue – you've heard this for the last year – but we continue to negotiate with the City of New York and meet with local political folks and community leaders to get support for the stadium we hope to build in Flushing Meadow Park."
