ESPN announcer Alejandro Moreno called it a "donkey-touch goal," but Frank Lampard won't care.
With his fifth goal in New York City FC's last six games, a fluky deflected finish that looped over the head of Montreal Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush to seal a 3-1 victory, Lampard has made a habit of scoring since returning from injury – even if the finishes aren't exactly AT&T Goal of the Week worthy.
Instead, the Chelsea legend has made the right runs and gotten the right bounces to find the back of the net. Some might call it lucky. Lampard, surely, would call it being in the right place at the right time.
On Sunday, Lampard stepped in front of a pass from David Villa that appeared to be intended for Jack Harrison and saw his attempt deflect off defender Wandrille Lefevre back into his own leg and and over the head of a flat-footed Bush.
It wasn't the first time he's gotten a kind break in the act of scoring this season.
Lampard opened his account in a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Union on June 18 with a left-footed shot at the edge of the six-yard box after a deflected Tommy McNamara attempt fell to his feet. He followed that up with a chested goal in a 2-0 win over Seattle a week later, and then redirected a McNamara cross into the back of the net off his knee in a 1-0 victory over New England on July 6. Lampard's cleanest finish came in a 3-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City, a first-time shot from eight-yards out.
