FC Dallas will host Bayern Munich’s Under-23 side for a preseason friendly next month at Toyota Stadium as part of the North Texans’ preparations for the 2019 MLS campaign.
Set for Feb. 9, the match is part of a week-long winter training camp in Frisco for Bayern’s U-23s, and also reflects the development partnership between the two clubs that kicked off last year. Though his participation is not yet known, the occasion could also include Chris Richards (pictured above), the talented young FCD Homegrown who spent the past six months on loan in Munich and will reportedly be sold to the Bavarian giants.
“We are delighted to announce this fixture, which marks another big step in our unique partnership,” said Rudolf Vidal, Bayern’s President of the Americas, in a club release. “Our partnership has already seen success with five FC Dallas players training in Munich and the loan signing of Chris Richards, showcasing our commitment to giving young players a pathway to professional soccer both in the United States and Germany.”
The meeting with Bayern’s U-23s is part of a preseason doubleheader for Dallas, with USL Championship side San Antonio FC also traveling to Frisco to face FCD. New head coach Luchi Gonzalez convenes his side to begin the 2019 preseason on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, Jan. 21).
Tickets to the Feb. 9 doubleheader are on sale now; they’re be free for FCD season-ticket members and $10 general admission for others.
