FC Cincinnati and D.C. United split the points at Nippert Stadium on Friday, in a gritty defensive battle that ended in a 0-0 draw.
Chances were few and far between for much of the evening, although both sides saw potential go-ahead goals bounce off the woodwork, first just eight minutes into the contest, when DC's Julian Gressel sent in a free kick that found the head of Donovan Pines in front of goal, only to see the attempt glance off the crossbar.
It was a slog after that, as both sides struggled to trouble the opposing goalkeeper. Ulises Segura had a shot on FC Cincinnati goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton in the 24th minute, but it was from a tough angle, allowing for a comfortable save.
Jurgen Locadia very nearly found a late winner for Cincinnati in the 84th minute, but the striker also saw his attempt bounce off the post, and the contest would end scoreless.

Three Things
THE BIG PICTURE:
Say this for FC Cincinnati: Since a 4-0 demolition at the hands of
Columbus Crew SC
to start the MLS is Back Tournament, they've been extremely tough to break down. Time will tell how far this style can take them, especially against the league's more dynamic attacking teams, but they'll at least have a fighting chance in a lot of games if they continue their improved defending.
MAN OF THE MATCH:
His team didn't wind up getting a goal, but
Frankie Amaya
continues to be a lot of fun, showcasing some of his pinpoint passing ability from the midfield.
