Count the great Thomas Muller among those in awe of the gifts of Alphonso Davies.
Muller, Davies and Bayern Munich bagged a huge 1-0 rivalry victory over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, with Davies once again starting at left back. After the match, Muller was asked about his young teammate and provided about as apt a description of the 19-year-old's physical gifts as anyone has to date.
"He's a player with a lot of heart and a lot of power, extreme power," Muller said. "Sometimes maybe he's not [at his] best position on the field, but he gets the opponent when you think, 'Oh, I have time, I have time' and then 'Meep meep meep meep' the FC Bayern roadrunner comes ahead and steals the ball."
The play Muller was likely referring to was this sequence in the first half of Tuesday's match that saw Davies use his blinding speed to track back and take the ball off a fellow 19-year-old prodigy, Dortmund forward Erling Haaland, who was charging on goal for a breakaway attempt that could have opened the scoring.
Meep meep, indeed.
