PROFILE
A promising young goalkeeper from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan who developed at the Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan Academy Centre, Thomas Hasal joined the Residency program in August 2016. He was signed to the club's Development Squad in November 2018, and then an MLS Homegrown contract in March 2019.
In February 2022, Hasal signed a contract extension through 2023, with club options for 2024 and 2025.
WHITECAPS FC
'22: Hasal recorded a career-high four clean sheets in 17 starts during an abbreviated 2022 season. The goalkeeper missed plenty of action after sustaining an injury on his left-handed middle finger against Toronto FC on May 8, working his way back to full fitness by starting three matches for Whitecaps FC 2 in MLS NEXT Pro and eventually making his return to the first team against Colorado Rapids on August 17. Hasal was also named to the MLS Team of the Week twice, featuring in Weeks 2 and 26.
'21: Following up from his breakout 2020 campaign, Hasal continued to show his potential in 2021. The youngster tallied one clean sheet and made 20 saves in seven starts during the regular season.
'20: Hasal had a summer to remember in 2020, beginning his professional career with a 239-minute shutout streak including clean sheets against Chicago Fire FC and Sporting KC at the MLS is Back Tournament before his season was cut short due to injury in September. Across all competitions, Hasal finished with a 4W-4L-1D and two clean sheets in nine starts and 10 appearances.
DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
'19: Hasal made 11 starts in 12 appearances for the Development Squad, joining the team in their trip to the United Kingdom and Mexico.
DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY
'17-'18: Hasal made 11 starts in the regular season, plus five more in the playoffs for Whitecaps FC U-19. '16-'17: Hasal started 12 matches for Whitecaps FC U-18 recording seven clean sheets in the process. He also started three playoff matches for the U-18's.
INTERNATIONAL
'22: Hasal was called up to the men's senior national team's camp in Bahrain ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. '18: Hasal was called up to the Canada U-23 camp for the first time in January, then made two starts in the Concacaf U-20 Championship in Florida, registering a 4-0 shutout victory over Dominica. 2017: Hasal made three starts for Canada in the Concacaf U-20 Championship in Costa Rica, earning a clean sheet in the 2-0 win against Antigua and Barbuda. '16: Hasal earned his first invitation to the Canadian national team in October, participating in the men's U-18 series in El Salvador. He made a penalty kick save on the second of the two matches against the hosts.
YOUTH/AMATEUR
Hasal developed under Bryce Chapman at the Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan Academy Centre. He played in the U-18 Saskatoon league from 2013 through 2016, then in the men's division one in 2015 through 2016. On the provincial level, Hasal featured for Team Saskatchewan in 2014 and 2015.
PERSONAL
When not training, Hasal likes to spend his time cooking and playing other sports such as basketball, volleyball, swimming, and snowboarding.

Hasal considers Petr Čech as his favourite goalkeeper, and FC Barcelona as his favourite team... Prior to joining the ‘Caps youth system, Hasal played one year with Saskatoon club Aurora SC.
