College to MLS: Which SuperDraft picks are most impactful in 2022?
The 2022 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas class is shaping up to be solid, with several players emerging as key contributors heading into the June international break.
A Centennial, Colorado native, Ryan Sailor was selected ninth overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft by Inter Miami CF, and went on to play a vital role in the team clinching a playoff berth for the second time in Club history in just three years of existence. Sailor, a towering player in the Inter Miami defensive line, made 23 appearances throughout the season, including starting in the teams Audi 2022 MLS Cup playoffs, while registering 18 interceptions, a 60% win rate in duels, and a sterling 87.4% pass accuracy.Â
Before being selected by the Herons in the SuperDraft, Sailor played for Real Colorado in his youth, helping lead the team to the Region IV semi-finals and the Colorado State Club Championship in 2013. A natural leader, he also served as the team’s captain from 2013-2016. Following this, he joined the University of Washington Huskies, shining in his final three seasons with the university. During his tenure with the Huskies, he recorded 49 total appearances, registering 10 goals and three assists, while also being named to the First Team All-Conference for PAC-12 and First Team All-America, being named PAC-12 Defensive Player of the Year, and being a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy. As captain, Sailor led the Huskies to three consecutive NCAA Elite 8 appearances, finishing as runner up in the 2021 College Cup National Championship.
