A promising Canadian youth international who enjoyed a stellar two-year career at Syracuse University, Ryan Raposo was drafted fourth overall by Whitecaps FC at the 2020 MLS SuperDraft.
The winger/attacking midfielder is signed to a Generation adidas contract, a joint program between MLS and adidas which sees a selection of top collegiate underclassmen and youth national team players signed and made available in the SuperDraft. GA contracts do not count against the salary cap.
WHITECAPS FC
'23: Raposo scored his lone goal of the season in the 5-0 victory over Honduran side Real C.D. España on March 8 in Concacaf Champions League action. The Canadian also reached 100 appearances for the ‘Caps on September 20 in the club’s away match against Houston Dynamo FC. In total, Raposo tallied one goal as well as three assists in 25 starts and 35 appearances across all competitions, setting new career-highs in starts and appearances.Â
'22: Raposo enjoyed a breakout season in 2022, as he recorded career-highs in goals, assists, starts, appearances and minutes played all while learning to adjust to his new position as a wingback. The Canadian scored his first professional goal against Sporting Kansas City on April 2 to give the ‘Caps a 1-0 victory, securing their first win of the season. In total, Raposo tallied three goals as well as three assists in 21 starts and 34 appearances across all competitions.
'21: The second-year pro tallied career-highs in games played with 21, games started with three and added two assists during the MLS regular season. Raposo assisted on Ryan Gauld’s game-winning goal against Los Angeles FC on August 21 in the ‘Caps first game back at BC Place in front of fans since February 2020. The youngster was the most used substitute by the ‘Caps during the regular season with 18 appearances from the bench. He also started the Canadian Championship match against Pacific FC.
'20: Raposo enjoyed a productive rookie year, making 15 appearances as well as two starts. In his professional debut in Week 2, he played an instrumental role in the 'Caps road win at LA Galaxy, assisting on the game-winner. His 13 substitute appearances was tied for sixth across MLS and was the highest among rookies.
COLLEGE
'18-'19: Raposo made 36 starts in 38 total appearances at Syracuse, collecting 19 goals and 14 assists in only two seasons. He was selected to the All-ACC First Team last year after setting a school record for goals scored by a sophomore with 15. In 2018, the 5-foot-7 midfielder led his team with seven assists, leading to an All-ACC Freshman team recognition.

Born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Raposo has featured for Canada at the youth level, participating at U-15 camps in 2014, and featuring for the U-23 team at the Concacaf Olympic Qualifiers in 2021.

In his youth, Raposo developed at Toronto FC Academy, Burlington Youth Soccer Club, and Vaughan SC.

Raposo has spent training stints with German clubs TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, 1. FSV Mainz 05, and SV Sandhausen... He captained his provincial team to a gold medal finish at the 2017 Canada Games, bagging tournament MVP honours in the process.
