Career Summary

Retired following 2017 season.

A local product, Bernier returned from Europe ahead of the 2012 season and has been one of the faces of the franchise during the Impact's MLS years. He won both the Impact MVP and the Impact Communitarian award in 2012, was named to the MLS All-Star Game in 2013 and is a two-time Amway Canadian Championship winner in 2013 and 2014. The Canadian international was named the second team captain in Impact MLS history prior to the start of the 2014 season and his leadership helped the club reach the CONCACAF Champions League final in 2015.

​OUTSIDE MLS: Bernier played all across Europe for more than a decade, starting in Norway with Moss F.K. and Tromso, continuing in Germany with Kaiserslautern, and moving on to Denmar with FC Nordjaelland. He has extended league and European competition experience as a result.

INTERNATIONAL: Has played a total of 53 games, including 38 starts, for the Canadian National Team, taking part in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2005, 2007 and 2009, as well as FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 2004 and 2008… Reached 50 career games with Canada on September 9 against Jamaica, in Toronto… Played in two games against Saint-Kitts-and Nevis and one game against Panama in the CONCACAF qualification for the 2014 World Cup… Has also been a member of the U23, U20 and U17 National Teams… Named CanadaSoccer.com Fan’s Choice in 2010.

COLLEGE: Played for Syracuse University in 1999, where he was named to the All-Rookie and All-Conference teams.
