MLS Experience
2009: In his 14th season with D.C. United, Jaime Moreno continued to show his value. With his first assist of the season on 4/17, Moreno became the first player in MLS history to to score 100+ goals and dish out 100 assists – he is the first-ever member of the 100-100 club. On 8/1, the Bolivian surpassed United legend Marco Etcheverry for the club record in assists (102). He played his 300th career game on 5/6. When he came on as a substitute in the 58th minute of United’s 1-0 win over Columbus on 10/17, he earned his 307th career appearance in United black, surpassing Cobi Jones (LA Galaxy) for the most regular season games in League history played with one club. United’s forward is currently the longest-tenured professional athlete in all of Washington sports, having played 13 seasons in the Nation’s Capital. During the 2009 campaign. Moreno was the team’s second most productive player, scoring nine goals and dishing out three assists in 24 games played (11 starts). In all competitions, the forward made 32 appearances (17 starts), tallying 11 goals and three assists.
2008: Jaime Moreno just gets better with age. The 34-year old added to his all-time goals total with ten more in 2008, second most on the team. He ended the year with 122 career goals, most ever in MLS. By also collecting ten assists he put together the fourth season in his career of 10+ goals and 10+ assists – tying the record set by Preki (Kansas City Wizards, Miami Fusion). He sits just one assist shy of becoming the first to collect 100 goals and 100 assists in a career. His three game-winning assists led United. Moreno is D.C. United's all-time leader in games played (283), games started (276), minutes played (23,096), goals (120), multi-goal games (16) and game-winning goals (25). In all competitions, Moreno added another four assists in eight games (seven starts).
2007: Putting together yet another banner season, Moreno achieved unparalleled heights when he became the League’s all-time leading goal-scorer. The record-setting strike – his 109th goal – came on a penalty in the team’s 3-1 win over New York on 8/22 for which he also won Goal of the Week Honors (Week 21). He finished the season with seven goals and also added six assists in 21 games (15 starts). Moreno missed significant time due to call-ups to the Bolivian National Team that saw the forward participate in Copa America and a World Cup qualifier.
2006: Moreno put together another outstanding season for the Black-and-Red, as the forward played in each of United's 32 games (31 starts). As the catalyst for the League's best offense, Moreno notched 11 goals - including a team-high five game-winners - and ten assists, second most on the team. This season proved to be a landmark year for Moreno, as he scored his 100th career goal, a second-half penalty kick against Columbus on 5/31. For the season, he was a perfect three-for-three from the penalty spot, increasing his League record to 29. In addition to making his sixth MLS All-Star team, Moreno also grabbed Player of the Week honors twice this season for his two-goal performances against Chivas USA on 4/8 and against Kansas City on 5/27. He later claimed Goal of the Week honors with his strike against New England on 6/3.
2005: Jaime Moreno continued the impressive form in 2004 that made him one of the best players in MLS and aided the Black-and-Red on their MLS Cup Championship run. Seeing time in 29 games (28 starts), Moreno scored 16 goals - his highest goal output since scoring 16 in 1997 and 1998 - and notched seven assists. His 16 goals were the second most in MLS. Moreno was also perfect from the penalty spot, converting all nine attempts. His nine PK's gave him 26 for his career and moved him past Preki (23) and into first place all-time. Moreno also earned Sierra Mist Goal of the Week honors twice during the season - for his goal against the Revolution on June 18 (Week 12) and for his goal versus Colorado on September 13 (Week 25).
2004: After undergoing a potentially career-ending surgery on a pair of herniated disks in his back, Jaime Moreno toiled tirelessly through the 2004 pre-season. He proved that he was still one of the best players in the League, leading United's offense with seven goals and fourteen assists (third best in the League) while appearing in 27 matches (all starts) for the Black-and-Red during the campaign. Whether from a forward position or in a playmaking midfield role, the rejuvenated Bolivian drove the D.C. attack to one of the highest scoring team outputs since 2000. He twice earned Player of the Week honors (Week 1 and Week 20) as well as Goal of the Week honors for his game-winning effort against the Kansas City Wizards in Week 7.
2003: An off-season trade sent Moreno to the MetroStars in exchange for Mike Petke and other considerations. Moreno made 11 appearances (seven starts) for the MetroStars. He continued to suffer injury problems and was placed on injured reserve in August, as he underwent surgery to repair a pair of herniated disks in his back.
2002: Moreno saw limited action in 2002 for the Black-and-Red, as he struggled to recover from a series of injuries. He appeared in 16 contests (14 starts). Moreno made an impact in his first appearance of the 2002 campaign on 4/20 versus Kansas City, earning a free kick in injury time that led to the game-winning goal. The Bolivian international finished with three goals and four assists on the season, notching a brace against the MetroStars on 5/18.
2001: Moreno amassed nine goals and six assists in 24 games (23 starts) for D.C. His ever-dangerous presence was felt by numerous defenses, as he was the most fouled player in MLS. After undergoing knee surgery in January, Moreno appeared in his first match of the season on 4/21 against the New England Revolution when he entered as a substitute. He scored both goals for United in a loss at the MetroStars (5/5). Moreno earned his fourth assist on Abdul Thompson Conteh's game-winning goal versus the Columbus Crew on 8/25.
2000: Moreno led all United scorers with 12 goals and seven assists and captured his first team scoring title. He scored in three consecutive matches from 4/1 to 4/15, but the string of goals was halted momentarily by his absence on 4/22 due to international commitments. He returned to the club on 4/29, however, and notched a goal against the San Jose Earthquakes. Moreno also tallied two multi-goal games in 2000 (5/6 and 8/9). By the end of the season, he had been involved in 43% of United's 44 goals.
1999: A finalist for League Most Valuable Player honors along with teammate Marco Etcheverry, Moreno became the first player other than Etcheverry to win the club honor. Named to the AT&T Best XI for the second time in his career, he finished with 10 goals and 13 assists in 25 games. He struck for five goals and nine assists over the final two months of the season, including an amazing five-match run when he was involved in 10 of United's 11 goals.
1998: Moreno scored 16 goals for the second season in a row. He also added 11 assists, becoming the first United player to record double figures in both goals and assists in one season, though Marco Etcheverry matched the feat later in the campaign.
1997: The winner of the MLS Golden Boot with 16 goals, Moreno added eight assists to finish second to Preki as the MLS Budweiser scoring champion. He played in just 20 League matches on the season, missing seven matches to National Team duty in June and July. At the end of the year, he was loaned briefly back to Middlesbrough, playing in five games and notching a goal.
1996: Moreno joined United in August 1996, following a stint with Middlesbrough (English Premier League), where he was the leading scorer for the club's reserve team. Moreno scored five goals in 16 League and Cup matches for United.
Other Experience
1994-96: Moreno made history when Middlesbrough purchased his rights from Blooming and he became the first Bolivian in the English Premier League. He spent two years with the club, figuring into 21 games and tallying two goals.
1991-94: Moreno began his professional career with Club Blooming, making 57 appearances and notching 14 goals.
International Experience
2008: Moreno appeared in an international friendly played at RFK Stadium on 8/6, when the Bolivian National Team lost to Guatemala. He then helped his team to a historic tie against Brazil in a World Cup qualifier on 9/10, before announcing his retirement from international play on 10/20. He played his final minutes in Bolivia’s kit during a 2-0 friendly loss to El Salvador at RFK Stadium on 10/22.
2007: After being absent from the Bolivian National Team for seven years, Moreno made a dazzling return in 2007. Named to the team’s Copa America roster in June, the forward scored two goals in three games, as Bolivia earned draws against Venezuela and Peru, but fell to Urugray. In October, he was again called on, this time taking part in a World Cup qualifying loss to Uruguay.
2000: Moreno made four appearances for Bolivia in 2002 World Cup Qualifying.
1999: Moreno appeared in both Copa America and the FIFA Confederations Cup for his country.
1997: In and out of national team duty, Moreno regained his spot in the Copa America with a goal in Bolivia's 3-1 semi-final victory over Mexico.
1994: Moreno was the youngest member of Bolivia's World Cup team.
