PROFILE
A calm, dynamic centre back, Érik Godoy brings eight years of top-tier Superliga Argentina experience to Vancouver after joining Whitecaps FC initially on a one-year loan from Club Atlético Colón in February 2019, then via transfer with the use of Targeted Allocation Money in the following year.
Godoy agreed to an MLS contract through 2022 with an option for 2023 in January 2020.
WHITECAPS FC
'21: In his third season with the ‘Caps, Godoy started 15 of his 17 appearances and recorded his second MLS goal in a 2-1 win over Austin FC on September 4. The Argentine centre back began the season on the sidelines due to a pre-season injury set-back and made his return as a substitute against Sporting Kansas City on May 16. Godoy would go on to start the next seven matches and make an additional eight starts in the second half of the season. Godoy also made an appearance as a second half substitute against Sporting Kansas City in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
'20: In his second MLS season, Godoy collected 11 starts and 12 appearances after being sidelined until August due to injury. By the end of the year, he was back to being a regular presence in the 'Caps backline, starting in all but one of their last 10 matches.
'19: Godoy was honoured with the VWFC Jock MacDonald Unsung Hero award following his first season in Vancouver, recording 28 starts in 29 MLS appearances, with a goal and an assist. His 32 blocks was only three off the MLS single-regular season record, and was tied for sixth-highest ever. He also added 127 clearances, good for ninth in MLS. He also played every minute of the 'Caps two Canadian Championship matches.
ARGENTINA
‘11-’18: Prior to joining Whitecaps FC, Godoy played the past eight years in his native Argentina with Tigre, Belgrano, and Colón. He made over 140 starts in the top tier Superliga Argentina, also known as the Primera División, as well 10 appearances in the Copa Argentina. In that time the native of Buenos Aires scored six goals in all competitions. In international cup competition, Godoy made one start in the Copa Libertadores with Tigre, as well as seven starts in the Copa Sudamericana with both Tigre, where he started the second leg of the final in 2012, and most recently with Colón in 2018.
YOUTH
Godoy developed in his youth at Club Atletico La Paternal in Buenos Aires.
