2021: After missing the opening of the 2021 season due to injury, Hamid made his first start of the year on May 29 in D.C. United’s 3-0 victory over Inter Miami CF. The 30-year-old goalkeeper played 10 games before suffering a second injury and returned on Sept. 15 in the team’s 3-0 win over Chicago Fire FC. On Oct. 16, after the 0-0 draw against Nashville SC, and with the clean sheet, he surpassed longtime coach and D.C. United Director of Goalkeeping Zach Thornton for the #6 spot in the MLS all-time regular season clean sheets list with 78. The Homegrown goalkeeper made 21 appearances, recorded 60 saves, and kept eight clean sheets in 1,817 minutes played. EA SPORTS also recognized Hamid’s performance in the newest version of the game, FIFA 22, where he was ranked third in the top 10 goalkeepers in the league. The goalkeeper was named to the MLS Team of the Week in weeks 16, 25, and 33.
2020: In his 12th season with D.C. United, Bill Hamid started 17 matches and helped the Black-and-Red record 54 saves and register two clean sheets. Hamid has 70 career MLS shutouts, only four behind Luis Robles for the eighth all-time in MLS History. One of his best performances of the season came against Atlanta United on Oct. 24, making five saves to help D.C. United win 2-1 in an important match.
_2019: 2019: 2019 was a career-year for Bill Hamid. The Homegrown goalkeeper broke multiple club records while etching his name in MLS history books. Hamid set a new D.C. United single-season record with 14 clean sheets. He also recorded the most saves during a single game in club history with 12 in the 0-0 draw against Toronto on May 15. With his 68th career shutout, Hamid passed goalkeeper Pat Onstad for the 9th-most clean sheets in MLS history. The 29-year-old also set a new career high with 127 saves during the 2019 season, which was good for third in MLS. The goalkeeper was rewarded for his efforts by being named to MLS Team of the Week four times.
*2018: _Hamid returned to the District after joining the Black-and-Red on loan from Danish side, FC Midtjylland on August 8. The Homegrown goalkeeper earned his first win at Audi Field on Aug. 15 in the 4-1 win against Portland. He earned his 50th career shutout for the Black-and-Red the next game with a two-save performance against New England on Aug. 19 to become one of only 14 goalkeepers in MLS history to achieve the 50 shutout milestone. Hamid matched his career-high for saves made in a single game with eight during United’s 1-1 draw with NYCFC on Sept. 8. Hamid finished the year with a 9-2-3 record and an 81% save percentage, playing a key role in a revitalized defense down the stretch for United. During the final four regular season games, Hamid produced three clean sheets to help the club secure berth into the Audi 2018 MLS Cup playoffs. Hamid earned MLS Team of the Week honors a remarkable four times during his 14 starts in goal for the Black-and-Red.
2017: *Started 24 games for the Black-and-Red making 98 saves and posting six shutouts. Named team MVP for the 2017 season.
_2016: After suffering an injury in January that forced him to miss the first 12 matches of the year, Hamid returned to the field on May 27 against Sporting Kansas City, when United won their first road match of the year. Hamid recorded seven saves in a match twice, against NYCFC on Oct. 16 and against RSL on July 1. United’s first Homegrown Player was nominated for Phillips 66 Save of the Week 12 times, winning once. He finished the season with 68 saves, five shutouts and a goals against average of 1.25.
*2015: _The 2014 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year continued to set the standard at his position in 2015, ranking at or near the top all season in goals allowed per game, saves, save percentage, and shutouts. Hamid opened the year with three shutouts in the first four matches. He also recorded a clean sheet against Columbus on May 2 and then in back-to-back matches against Chicago on June 24 and Toronto on June 27. Hamid matched his career-high with eight saves at Portland on May 27 and at Montreal on Aug. 8. He tallied his eighth shutout of the year in United’s 4-0 win over Chicago on Oct. 18. In May, Hamid and D.C. United agreed to a multi-year contract extension, and he was also named to the U.S. Men’s National Team roster for matches against Mexico in April and Costa Rica in October.
2014: *Hamid, D.C. United’s first Homegrown signing, had his best MLS season in 2014. Hamid was named an MLS All-Star, MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and selected to the MLS Best XI. The accolades came after Hamid finished first in saves percentage (75.3), second in shutouts (10), third in goals against average (1.13), and tied for fourth in wins (14) and saves (110). He was the only goalkeeper to finish the MLS regular season in the top three in saves percentage, shutouts and goals against average. Hamid set career highs in games played and started (30), minutes played (2,700) shutouts, saves and wins. He became the first Homegrown goalkeeper to win the league’s top goalkeeping award and to be selected to the MLS All-Star Team. He also became the first MLS Homegrown player to reach 100 MLS regular season games.
_2013: Hamid had another solid season in the net, appearing and starting in 25 games while registering four shutouts. Hamid was a member of the 2013 U.S. Men’s National Team that won the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Homegrown product appeared on the 18-man roster against Canada on Jan. 29. Hamid also made the roster for the game against Germany. The game was played on his home grounds, RFK Stadium, on June 2. While wearing Black-and-Red, the talented, young keeper earned multiple honors, including Save of the Week in Week 1, Player of the Week in Week 3 and Team of the Week for Week 12. Hamid was also selected to the EA Sports FIFA 13 Ultimate Team of the Week after his stellar performance against the New York Red Bulls on March 16.
*2012: _After losing his No. 1 GK position coming back from Olympic qualifying with the U-23 U.S. Men’s squad, Hamid would reclaim his starting status on May 5. Hamid went on to feature in 23 of United’s 24 games (minimum of 30 saves) and a club single-season record. In the final regular-season match, Hamid tied his career high of saves in a single game (eight) in a critical 1-1 draw against the Chicago Fire on Oct. 27. The draw allowed United to capture the No. 2 playoff seed in the Eastern Conference.
2011: Solidifying his position as United’s first-choice goalkeeper, Hamid rebounded strongly from offseason shoulder surgery by starting 28 league games for the Black-and-Red. In 2,392 minutes of action, Hamid compiled an overall MLS record of 7-9-10. On the season, he tallied 77 saves and a 1.39 goals-against-average mark. He earned his first shutout on April 16 at Toronto FC in a 3-0 win; he compiled seven clean sheets overall. The United Academy product was rewarded for his continued success with a spot on Jürgen Klinsmann’s U.S. Men’s National Team throughout the year.
2010: *Hamid became the youngest goalkeeper in MLS history to record a victory with a 2-1 win against Kansas City on May 5. Hamid beat the previous record held by former New York goalkeeper and USMNT standout Tim Howard. The 19-year-old was 3-5-0 in eight games for United, posting one shutout and 20 saves en route to a 1.25 goals-against-average mark. He underwent successful season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
2009: Hamid made United history on Sept. 2 by becoming the first D.C. United Academy player to sign with the first team. As the first player to come up through the club’s youth system, Hamid was only available for non-League games during the 2009 season. He did not see any playing time
Following the 2017 season, Bill Hamid left D.C. United for FC Midtjylland in the Danish first tier. While in Denmark, Hamid would make four appearances for the reserves, recording two clean sheets. The goalkeeper made three appearances for the senior squad before returning to United on Aug. 8, 2018.
The goalkeeper has earned Youth National Team experience, spending time with the United States U-18 and U-20 National Teams. In 2008, he traveled to Portugal with the U-20 team to play in the Campos Verdes International Tournament. Hamid was also part of the United States squad that went to Mexico for the Copa Chivas. Hamid was rewarded for his success in MLS with his first senior call-up to the U.S. Men’s National Team on Aug. 10, 2011 for a friendly with Mexico. Hamid went on to become Jürgen Klinsmann’s de facto backup for starting goalkeeper Tim Howard throughout the year. In total, Hamid was on the bench for five U.S. friendlies in 2011. Hamid earned his first cap with the senior U.S. Men’s National Team, as he kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Venezuela Jan. 22, 2012. Following a successful 2019 season in MLS, Hamid was invited to the USMNT's annual training camp in January. The goalkeeper has now made seven career appearances for the USMNT, recording four clean sheets.
December 9, 2019: Acquired on a permanent transfer from Danish top-tier side FC Midtjylland and signed a multi-year contract.
