2018 (Philadelphia): Bedoya made 33 regular-season appearances (31 starts), with 30 appearances at central midfield and three at central attacking midfield, registering three goals and six assists. He notched his first helper of the season on opening day vs. New England (March 3) by assisting on Anthony Fontana's goal and he scored his first goal of the season vs. San Jose (April 7), a tally that tied the match. He was named to the MLS Team of the Week (Week 6). He scored the game-winning goal that clinched a postseason berth for the Union, in the 5-1 win vs. Minnesota (October 6). He started the Union's Knockout Round postseason match at New York City FC (October 31) at right midfield. In the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Bedoya made four appearances (four starts) at central midfield, totaling one goal and four assists. He made his first career appearance in the tournament with a start in the Round of 16 win over the Red Bulls (June 16), assisting on both Union goals. He also scored the match's only goal in the Quarterfinals win over Orlando (July 18), and totaled two assists in the Semifinals win over Chicago (August 8).
2017 (Philadelphia): Bedoya made 28 appearances, all starts, in his first full season with Philadelphia, totaling 23 appearances at central midfield and five at central attacking midfield. He scored two goals and added four assists. His first five starts of the year came at central attacking midfield, and he shifted to central midfield in his sixth start, vs. NYCFC (April 14). He notched his first assist in MLS at D.C. United (May 13), and scored his first goal of the year vs. Atlanta (August 26). He was a part of the championship-winning United States Men's National Team during the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, joining the squad for the Group Stage before returning home for the birth of his second child.
2016 (Philadelphia): On August 3, 2016, Bedoya joined Philadelphia Union as a Designated Player. He made 10 regular-season appearances during his first campaign with the club, scoring once, a chipped effort on September 24, 2016 at Toronto FC. His overall debut with the team came on August 14, 2016 against the New England Revolution. Bedoya also started in Philadelphia’s postseason match at Toronto FC in the Knockout Round on October 27, 2016, scoring a goal.
2015-16 (Nantes): Bedoya made 28 appearances during his third season for Nantes (three goals, three assists) to go along with three French Cup matches played, where he scored twice.
2014-15 (Nantes): Making 28 appearances, Bedoya scored three goals and added one assist for Nantes, his second season in Ligue 1. He also appeared three times in the French Cup and twice in the French League Cup.
2013-14 (Nantes): On August 7, 2013, Bedoya joined Nantes in France’s Ligue 1. He made a career-high 31 league appearances over the campaign, scoring five times and adding one assist. His league debut came on August 18, 2013 against FC Lorient, with his first goal coming on October 19, 2013 against Ajaccio. He also made one appearance in the French League Cup, scoring a goal in a third round win over Lorient.
2013 (Helsingborgs IF): Bedoya made 12 league appearances for Helsingborgs, scoring five goals with four assists. He also made six appearances in the Europa League with the team during group play, scoring twice, in addition to two matches played in UEFA Champions League qualification.
2011-12 (Rangers/Helsingborgs IF): Bedoya moved to Rangers on August 17, 2011, in the middle of the Allsvenskan season and made his debut for the team in the Scottish Premiership on August 28, 2011 against Aberdeen FC. He made a total of 12 league appearances for Rangers, scoring once and adding one assist. On August 10, 2012, he returned to Sweden by joining Helsingborgs IF, where he made nine Allsvenskan appearances (one goal, four assists) and three appearances in the Swedish Cup during the 2012 season.
2011 (Orebro SK): Bedoya made 14 additional appearances for Orebro in 2011, scoring four times with two assists.
2010 (Orebro SK): During his second season with Orebro, Bedoya tallied twice and added three assists in 26 appearances. He helped the club to a third place finish and Europa League qualification. The midfielder also made two appearances in the Swedish Cup.
2009 (Orebro SK): Following his collegiate tenure, Bedoya signed overseas in Sweden with Orebro SK, where he made 24 appearances in the Allsvenskan, scoring two goals and adding one assist. His league debut came on April 20, 2009 against Helsingborgs IF and his first league tally came as part of a two-goal effort on July 27, 2009. He also made three appearances in the Swedish Cup, scoring a goal in the round of 16 against Halmstads BK.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Bedoya was a mainstay for the United States National Team, registering 66 caps since his debut during a friendly against Honduras on January 23, 2010. He has scored a total of two international goals, with the first coming during a friendly against Guatemala in San Diego on July 5, 2013 and the second in a friendly at the Czech Republic on September 3, 2014. He was a part of the squad at the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he helped the U.S. win the title, and he also played in all four of the U.S.’ matches at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The midfielder earned his first call-up of the 2017 season on March 15, when it was announced that he would join the USMNT ahead of two FIFA World Cup qualifiers: vs. Honduras (March 24) and at Panama (March 28). In the first match, he made a substitute appearance, replacing an injured Sebastian Lletget in the first half for his 58th cap, where he also earned an assist as part of a 6-0 win. He earned his 59th cap with an additional substitute appearance as part of a 1-1 draw in Panama.
On May 28, Bedoya was again called-up by the USMNT ahead of a friendly against Venezuela (June 3) and two 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches, vs. Trinidad and Tobago (June 8) and at Mexico (June 11). He earned his 60th cap with a substitute appearance in the World Cup qualifier vs. Trinidad and Tobago. He was also named to the USMNT's provisional roster ahead of the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and he received a call-up for the final 23-man roster ahead of the Group Stage. He made his 61st appearance for the USMNT by coming on as a second-half substitute in a pre-tournament friendly vs. Ghana (July 1). Bedoya then captained the USMNT during the tournament's first match, a 1-1 draw against Panama (July 8), which was his 62nd cap. He earned his 63rd a few days later with a substitute appearance and an assist in a 3-2 win over Martinique (July 12), and his 64th with a two-assist performance against Nicaragua (July 15), helping the USMNT win Group B. He departed the side after the Group Stage in anticipation of the birth of his second child. He was recognized as a 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup champion for the second time following the USMNT's 2-1 win over Jamaica in the Final (July 26).
Bedoya was again called-up by Bruce Arena and the USMNT ahead of 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches vs. Costa Rica (September 1) and at Honduras (September 5). He was in the matchday roster for each contest, but did not appear. He received another call-up ahead of the next round of World Cup qualifiers, vs. Panama (October 6) and at Trinidad and Tobago (October 10). He came on as a substitute at central midfield vs. Panama, his 65th cap, helping the USA close out a 4-0 win.
Following the 2017 season, he was called up to represent the USA ahead of a friendly at Portugal (November 14). He came on as a late substitute in that match, his 66th cap, helping to preserve a 1-1 draw.
COLLEGE EXPERIENCE
Bedoya played in college for Fairleigh Dickinson University before transferring to Boston College.
ACQUIRED: Philadelphia Union acquired Alejandro Bedoya as a Designated Player on August 3, 2016. The Union acquired Bedoya via the Allocation Process after the club secured the number one spot in the Allocation Ranking Order in a trade with the Chicago Fire. The Union traded General Allocation Money, Targeted Allocation Money, the club’s natural first round pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft Pick, and the Discovery Priority on a player to be named later in exchange for the #1 spot.
