“Dos Nueves” isn’t just a jersey number or catchphrase anymore; it’s a lifestyle.
New York Red Bulls striker and leading MLS marksman Bradley Wright-Phillips debuted the latest pieces in his own signature line of hats and apparel on Wednesday, unveiling the “Two Nines” limited-edition capsule collection – named after his increasingly iconic No. 99 shirt – to a capacity crowd at a hip launch event at Hat Club in Manhattan.
Designed by RBNY, BWP and Two Nines in partnership with New Era, the gear is also modeled by BWP and a few of his Red Bulls teammates in promotional photo shoots, and is on sale to the general public at MLSstore.com.
In addition to the original Two Nines designs, three hats were created from the game-worn jersey that Wright-Phillips wore while scoring his 99th MLS goal at Red Bull Arena in July; those hats went up for auction on the DashApp. An additional four hats were created from a replica BWP jersey and were available for purchase at Wednesday’s event.
Currently in his sixth season with the Red Bulls – who are hot on the trail of Atlanta United in the race for the 2018 MLS Supporters’ Shield as well as leading MLS Cup contenders – Wright-Phillips is one of the most prolific scorers in MLS history, with 106 regular-season goals and counting.
The Englishman has won two MLS Golden Boot awards, two All-Star nods and two MLS Best XI honors, is the first player in league history to score 15 or more goals in five consecutive seasons, and earlier this year became the fastest player in MLS history to score 100 goals.
Throughout the year he’s worn Two Nines gear before and after matches and at public events, giving fans a glimpse of his design sensibilities, and now those looks are available to all. The Red Bulls return to match action on Sunday with a visit to I-95 neighbors the Philadelphia Union (3 pm ET | TV and streaming info).
