Will Bruin didn’t just cap a dramatic comeback to lift Seattle Sounders FC to a needed 2-1 win over Minnesota United FC on Saturday night, his stoppage-time clincher is also the winner for AT&T Goal of the Week for MLS Week 23.
With his team trailing 1-0 late in the second half, Bruin came off the bench to provide a spark and did just that after Nicolas Lodeiro leveled from the penalty spot in the first minute of stoppage time.
Kelvin Leerdam thumped a ball forward that Raul Ruidiaz latched onto and headed into space. Bruin raced into the box and poked over Loons goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth, who raced off his line to challenge, for his sixth goal of the season that captured 50 percent of the GOTW vote.
Bastian Schweinsteiger came in second with 28 percent of the vote for his leveling blast from distance three minutes into the second half in the Chicago Fire’s2-1 loss at Real Salt Lake.
Here’s how the rest of the pack finished up: Teal Bunbury at nine percent, Kellyn Acosta at eight percent and Darwin Quintero at five percent.
