US national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann spent about 20 minutes on Sunday discussing the USMNT in a Facebook fan Q&A from the team’s camp in Miami ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Guatemala.
One of Klinsmann’s more interesting answers came when he was asked about balancing the roster between the senior team and the U-23 side, which is currently getting ready for their two-legged Olympic qualifying playoff series against Colombia on March 25 and 29.
Klinsmann called two Olympic age-eligible players to the senior team in DeAndre Yedlin and John Anthony Brooks, but indicated that he could send one or both of them to the U-23s depending on the result of their March 25 first leg in Colombia.
“I think it’s definitely a good situation for us that the Olympic team plays first on Friday in Colombia so we get to know their result,” Klinsmann said. “Obviously we have to get our result on Friday in Guatemala, we have to show that we have a very good game, and then after that the coaches will connect again and then make things up ahead of the second leg. Anything is possible, to be honest.”
