Benny Feilhaber re-joined Sporting Kansas City on Tuesday, this time as a member of the team's technical staff, and while he will likely come across many familiar faces, there was one that caught him by surprise on his first day.
During his introductory press conference, Minnesota United defender and Feilhaber's former SKC teammate Ike Opara unexpectedly joined the Zoom with a couple of pressing questions for his friend.
The two-minute exchange is full of banter between two friends. Opara asked Feilhaber if he would get "real clothes" to go with his new job, to which Feilhaber replied, "probably no." Felihaber did admit, though, that he will need to freshen up on his adidas gear.
Opara also asked Feilhaber about a comeback to playing, but the former USMNT midfielder quickly shot the question down: "I think there's no chance, based on my physical readiness, that I'll ever be able to make a comeback, unless soccer changes drastically from having to run to, like, standing in place." It is not a surprising answer from a player who announced his retirement by tweeting "running is hard," but he did make the concession that he may have to participate in training from time to time.
Feilhaber also got to crack a joke about his longtime friend, with whom he cohosts BSI: The Podcast alongside another ex-SKC player in Sal Zizzo. When the audio cut out as Opara was asking questions, Feilhaber asked, "Can we get Ike some real wifi?"
