LA Galaxy’s Giovani and Jonathan dos Santos and LAFC’s Carlos Vela all saw action in Mexico’s 1-0 friendly win against Bosnia and Herzegovina in San Antonio on Wednesday night, with Giovani dos Santos and Vela starting and Jonathan dos Santos coming on at halftime and assisting on the match’s lone goal.
Vela captained El Tri and showed well while playing somewhat deeper than usual in the midfield, moving the ball well and creating some danger in the final third in his 90-minute performance.
Giovani dos Santos started at winger and began the game brightly but tailed off a bit before being subbed off at halftime. His younger brother Jonathan played well after coming on at halftime, delivering the corner kick that Hugo Ayala headed home to give Mexico their 1-0 lead in the 66th minute.
Former US youth international Jonathan Gonzalez also made his Mexico debut during the match, coming on for the final 33 minutes. Gonzalez, 18, represented the US for the entirety of his career as a US youth international, but recently filed a one-time switch with FIFA to represent Mexico on the senior level.
Philadelphia Union midfielder Haris Medunjanin went the full 90 for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Medunjanin, Vela and the dos Santos brothers will now return to their MLS teams for preseason training.
