The Vancouver Whitecaps are still winless and that's not something that sits well with head coach Marc Dos Santos.
There have been positives, for sure, including a 0-0 draw against the Seattle Sounders and a dominant first half against the LA Galaxy that ended in a 2-0 loss.
"A lot of points left on the table," Dos Santos said after training on Monday. "You look at a game against Seattle, where you're collective organization is very good, then at the end Stefan Frei had the best saves in that game. You think, man, we had to finish that chance."
At the beginning of that dominant first half was a missed penalty by left back Ali Adnan, who attempted a Panenka but scuffed his shot for David Bingham to save.
"I was very frustrated, it kind of stayed with me during the 90 minutes. ... The player that took the decision in that spot, everyone who judges Ali and the decision he took, I'm sure all of you are here (to the media) one time in your life took a (bad) decision," Dos Santos said. "I did. Maybe you guys have not, you're perfect, but I have. Ali in that moment took a bad decision. He knows that. He's aware of that. He was very down."
Dos Santos found the positives, though, including his take on the best left back in MLS.
"What I take out of it, is for one, he's the best left back in MLS," Dos Santos said. "That's my simple opinion. And two ... he kept going. He was one of the best players in the team on that night."
Another one of the club's late offseason additions was Fredy Montero, who rejoined the club after a year away.
"Fredy is not in his best moment, it's just that," Dos Santos said. "Fredy is a player that did preseason in Portugal then re-adapted here, thrown right away into a game when he had five or six sessions with us. Everything is so fast. I want to give Fredy time."
Heading into their next match, another date on MLS Friday Night on TSN against the Chicago Fire (8:30 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US, TSN in Canada), Dos Santos hints at lineup change.
"I expect some rotation," Dos Santos said. "High rotation? No. Some guys are able to play two games in a row, it's important now that we keep a certain core."
