Amway Canadian Championship final, second leg

The Vancouver Whitecaps hope to turn things around in the second leg of the 2016 Amway Canadian Championship against Toronto FC. The Reds took a slender 1-0 win at BMO Field against the defending Canadian champions in the first leg and will be looking to end a three-year wait for the country’s top club crown.

With the Whitecaps currently sitting fourth in MLS’s Western Conference, a win against their Ontario rivals could be a boost heading into the All-Star break. The Canadian Championship winner automatically books its ticket to the 2017-18 CONCACAF Champions League as Canada's entrant in the regional tournament.

How they got here

TORONTO: Entered in the semifinal round, and defeated Montreal Impact 4-2 on aggregate.

VANCOUVER: Entered in the semifinal round, defeating Ottawa Fury 3-2 on aggregate.

Series history

The teams have met two times previously in the Canadian Championship final, as the Whitecaps met TFC in 2011 and 2012, with the Ontario club winning both of those years.

Final history

Toronto are 2-1 in ACC finals since 2011, losing in 2014 to Montreal, while Vancouver are 1-3 in the finals. In addition to losing to TFC 2011-12, the Whitecaps lost to Montreal in 2013 before beating the Impact for their first triumph in the competition last year.
