USMNT's Christian Pulisic, Fabian Johnson start in UEFA Champions League

Christian Pulisic - Borussia Dortmund - on the run with ball

A pair of US national team players started in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, with 17-year-old wunderkind Christian Pulisic playing 90 minutes and recording an assist in Borussia Dortmund’s 6-0 win at Polish club Legia Warsaw and Fabian Johnson going the distance on the wing in Borussia Moenchengladbach’s 4-0 loss at Manchester City.

Making his Champions League debut and earning his first appearance of the season, Pulisic set up Dortmund's fifth goal in the 76th minute with a left-footed cross that Gonzalo Castro finished off. The club moved to the top of Group F with the lopsided win.

Things didn’t go quite as smoothly for Johnson and Moenchengladbach, who had their road game vs. Man City pushed back from Tuesday to Wednesday due to heavy rainfall. Johnson played on the right side of the midfield, but he and the rest of his side could not stop Sergio Aguero from scoring a hat-trick. Moenchengladbach are in third place in Group C.

Both Pulisic and Johnson could return to action on Saturday, when Dortmund host Darmstadt 98 and Monchengladbach welcome US international forward Aron Johannsson and Werder Bremen.
