U.S. Soccer announced on Tuesday that US men’s national team and MLS legend DaMarcus Beasley will be honored at Friday’s Concacaf Nations League match vs. Canada at Exploria Stadium in Orlando (7 pm ET | ESPN2, UniMás, TUDN in US; OneSoccer.ca in Canada).
Beasley, 37, retired this year, calling time on a sterling 20-year professional career that started with the Chicago Fire in 2000 and spanned more than 500 games for club and country, with stops at PSV Eindhoven, Manchester City, Glasgow Rangers, Hannover 96, Liga MX side Puebla and the Houston Dynamo.
He earned 126 caps for the USMNT and played in the 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups – the only US player ever to do so – as well as in 2018 qualifying. He also won four Concacaf Gold Cups and on three occasions hoisted the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup trophy, part of his career haul of 13 major trophies.
Friday’s ceremony is the latest in a new federation initiative to recognize the outstanding achievements of any senior men’s and women’s national team players who earned at least 100 caps and appeared on the roster of at least two world championships, either World Cups or Olympic Games. Iconic USMNT goalkeeper Tim Howard was the first to be honored, at the 3-0 friendly loss to Mexico on Sept. 6 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
