The US national team got a rousing welcome to Nissan Stadium as they arrived for Tuesday’s friendly vs. Mexico in Nashville, Tennessee, as they were cheered on by a gauntlet of active-duty military personnel.
The match took place on the 17th anniversary of the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and the informal guard of honor was part of the event’s various tributes to the memory of that tragedy and the men and women in uniform subsequently called to duty.
The troops hail from Fort Campbell, an Army base located about an hour northwest of Nashville in Kentucky, and they added to the lively atmosphere of a border rivalry showdown in front of more than 40,000 fans.
