Concacaf has released the preliminary provisional rosters of 50 players for each country in the region's upcoming Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournament, and they include 58 players based in MLS just for the United States and Canada alone.
US men's national team coach Gregg Berhalter indicated he will try to feature as strong a team as possible for next month's U-23 tournament, and the provisional roster reflects that. It includes 32 players on MLS sides, and numerous players who have already made their debuts for Berhalter's full international side.
Reggie Cannon, Brenden Aaronson, Jackson Yueill, Jesus Ferreira, Mark McKenzie, Brandon Servania and Jonathan Lewis are all MLS-based players who appeared for Berhalter's squad in their most recent 1-0 friendly win over Costa Rica who are included on the provisional 50-man Olympic roster.
Canada's roster includes 26 MLS-based players.
Clubs are not required to release their players for the tournament, which includes games outside a recognized international window, which is one reason why European-based players Christian Pulisic, Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie, Josh Sargent, Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David are not among the players listed, even though they all meet the age requirement. However, Dortmund's Giovanni Reyna was included on the US provisional squad.
The final 20-player rosters will be revealed by Concacaf a week prior to the start of the tournament. After the official announcement, only injury-related changes will be permitted, up until 24 hours before each team’s first match.
