Iker Casillas was again linked to MLS on Wednesday, when it was reported that Porto president Pinto da Costa would like to sell the longtime Spanish international goalkeeper.
According to Spanish outlet El Confidencial, the Porto president has been supportive of Casillas in public, but is bashing the 34-year-old ‘keeper in private.
Porto signed Casillas from Real Madrid this summer, but da Costa is apparently feeling a bit of buyer’s remorse, reportedly telling friends that he “has been an absolute fiasco” and that he hopes to sell him in what would be “the best transfer we’ve done.”
Da Costa reportedly also mentioned a potential landing spot for Casillas if Porto is able to sell him: New York City FC.
“Not only has he not met the expectations we had, but he’s also cost us games, the league and our early elimination from the Champions League,” he said.
“The club can’t afford his salary. If he goes to the United States, because I’ve been told he’s wanted by New York City, it would be the best transfer we have done.”
