Reports out of South America, via NYC-area soccer blog Empire of Soccer, have indicated that NYCFC is showing interest – confirmed by the player – in Costa Rica international Ronald Matarrita, who currently plays for LD Alajuelense in the Costa Rican Primera División.
The 21-year-old has made appearances for Costa Rica at the U-17, -20, -22 and -23 levels, along with a senior team debut in May (friendly vs. Brazil) followed by starting nods for Los Ticos in World Cup Qualifiers against Haiti and Panama in November. He debuted for Alajuelense on Sept. 5, 2013 and has made 67 appearances for the club side, with 4 goals and 17 yellow cards (no reds!), per Soccerway.com.
