TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Transfer
After weeks of uncertainty, Cyle Larin looks set to finalize his move to Turkish club Besiktas.
On Tuesday afternoon, Orlando City SC announced they had agreed to an undisclosed fee with the Istanbul-based outfit for the Canadian forward.
In announcing the deal, Orlando expressed disappointment in the transfer saga as Larin – who expressed his desire to play in Europe at the end of the 2017 season – did not report to the start of preseason camp last week and was trained at Besiktas even as head coach Jason Kreis insisted the former No. 1 draft pick was still a contracted Orlando City player.
“Although the Club was disappointed with the unacceptable behavior of the athlete and representatives, a decision was taken to guarantee compensation with the Club’s future in mind,” the statement reads. “The Club looks forward to focusing on the upcoming season with staff and players who honor and respect the strong values of the Club and commitment to our community to lead us through 2018 and beyond.”
With Larin on his way out, the Lions will turn to striker Dom Dwyer to key a new-look attack that will also feature winger Justin Meram, who came over in a trade with Columbus Crew SC on Monday.
