It only took 90 minutes for Alejandro Pozuelo to show he could make an immediate impact in MLS, and it only took four games to put in the best performance for the week.
The Toronto FC playmaker was named MLS Player of the Week for Week 8 of the 2019 regular season, after he scored two goals and an assist in a 4-3 win at BMO Field over Minnesota United FC.
After Minnesota took the lead against the run of play, Pozuelo hit a quick-fire brace to bring TFC back into the match. He ran a one-man counterattack before unleashing from range in the 28th minute, then took a low cross and hit the one-timer to make it 2-1 for the home side.
Late in the match, with the score deadlocked at 3-3, he set up the winner, scored by Jordan Hamilton, to deliver the full points for Toronto.
Pozuelo is off to a terrific start to his TFC tenure. In four matches, he has four goals and five assists, as Toronto have a 2-1-1 record with the Designated Player in the lineup.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
