TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Toronto FC added to their 2018 roster on Friday, announcing they have signed midfielder Liam Fraser to a Homegrown Player contract.
Fraser, 19, joins the TFC first team after playing the past two seasons in USL for Toronto FC II. The Toronto FC academy product is the 16th player to sign a first-team contract with the club.
“Over that past two seasons with TFC II and during his time with our Academy, Liam has shown a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication, especially in his desire to learn the defensive midfield role at the next level,” said Toronto FC senior vice president, soccer operations and general manager Tim Bezbatchenko in a team statement. “Liam becomes the fourth product and another Canadian Homegrown player to complete the full player pathway designed at Toronto FC.”
The defensive midfielder, who has been compared to TFC captain Michael Bradley in his style of play, made 52 appearances for TFC II in USL play, scoring two goals. Fraser also played for TFC's senior youth team, Toronto FC III, at the prestigious Viareggio Cup in 2017, captaining the side in the international tournament in Italy.
A Canadian youth international, the British Columbia native has represented his country to date at the U-20 level and was recently called into a U-23 training camp.
Toronto FC begin their 2018 competitive slate with a CONCACAF Champions League tie against the Colorado Rapids, with the first leg taking place on February 20 in Colorado.
