Toronto FC clinched a spot in the 2020 Canadian Championship Final by virtue of the Montreal Impact's 3-1 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Week 12 and on Saturday night they learned their opponent.
TFC will face Canadian Premier League team Forge FC, which claimed the CPL's Island Games Final against HFX Wanderers FC.
Canada Soccer unveiled a new format for the Canadian Championship final in 2020: a single-match, winner-take-all final between one finalist from the Canadian Premier League and another from MLS. The winner of Canada’s "Battle of the North" will lift the Voyageurs Cup and qualify for the next edition of the Concacaf Champions League.
The winner of the CPL's Island Games Final represents the Canadian Premier League. The MLS finalist was determined by a series of nine MLS regular season matches between the three Canadian MLS teams. The team earning the most points against the other two Canadian MLS clubs advanced to the final: Toronto FC finished with 12 points, finishing three points ahead of rivals Montreal.
