Tim Howard has had a long and storied career, but the accomplishments keep on coming.
The Colorado Rapids goalkeeper will make history as the US national team player with the most World Cup qualifying caps on Tuesday, when he is expected to start in the fourth-round finale against Trinidad & Tobago in Jacksonville (8 pm ET, FS1, UniMás, UDN).
With an appearance in that game, it will be Howard's 32nd World Cup qualifying cap, pushing him past fellow goalkeeper Kasey Keller for the all-time lead. According to US Soccer, Howard is the only goalkeeper to appear in four different World Cup qualifying cycles.
The record comes in addition to several other historic records for Howard in his time with the US. Tuesday's game will also move him into the Top 10 in all-time USMNT caps for all players with 110, alongside Carlos Bocanegra and Paul Caligiuri, and he is already the record-holder in appearances among goalkeepers. Howard is also the all-time US wins leader on the international stage, with 55, and has the FIFA World Cup record in saves in a game, following his famous 15-save performance against Belgium in the 2014 World Cup.
