The Montreal Impact will be heading back home following their Week 14 match against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday night.
Head coach Thierry Henry confirmed the news in a pregame interview with MSG Network, during which he explained just how challenging it has been for the Impact to deal with restrictions and other cross-border travel considerations that have been implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The club is currently playing home matches stateside at Red Bull Arena where they lost 4-1 to Philadelphia at Red Bull Arena and where they will be hosting Chicago Fire FC on October 3.
“This is not our place. We’re playing a home game here because we have to," Henry said. "The guys are away from their family. When we finish this game, we’re going to go back home. But when you go back home you can’t train, you can’t treat the players who are injured – I have a lot of injured players – because of COVID. And it is what it is.
"We’re going to have to come back I don’t know exactly when we’re going to come back," Henry continued. "But being there [in Montreal] we can’t go out, train and treat the players. It is what it is. As you’ll see tonight on the bench, we’re short of options, guys are injured, mentally drained. But it is what it is. You have to find a way to perform tonight.”
Among the absences for Montreal against RBNY were playmaker Saphir Taider and forward Romell Quioto with Henry noting "you have all your assists and goals in them."
