St. Louis City SC celebrated a major milestone in the construction of its in-progress new stadium on this week, with the placement of the first steel beam as the club churns on in preparation for its scheduled MLS launch in 2023.

To commemorate the milestone, St. Louis City and city officials randomly selected a "starting XI" made up of fans that participated in a steal beam signing ceremony.

“It’s astounding to think how far this team and our construction partners at MAK have come in the last 10 months, completing the early construction phase safely and on-time,” vice president of community relations Khalia Collier said in a Wednesday release. “I’m honored to have signed the stadium district’s first steel beam and mark my name in St. Louis sports history. Now, with the steel in place, I’m looking forward to seeing our world-class stadium district continue to take shape and help further the growth and revitalization of St. Louis.”

The club has released renderings for the soccer-specific venue in downtown St. Louis, which is expected to have a capacity of 22,500.

St. Louis City also launched a stadium district-specific website where fans and community members can be immersed in the stadium district progress. Check out the club-released video recognizing the milestone below, which features comments from co-owner Carolyn Kindle Betz.
