It's been a rough April for Sporting Kansas City, with a painful semifinal exit from the Concacaf Champions League bookended by a three-game winless skid in league play that hit a low with Saturday's 4-1 loss at the San Jose Earthquakes.
Now Sporting have been hit with further bad news, as the club announced on Tuesday that the veteran trio of Matt Besler, Roger Espinoza and Rodney Wallace will be sidelined by injuries for at least several games to come.
Besler, the club captain, strained a hamstring during Saturday's humbling and is estimated to be out for 2-4 weeks.
A pillar in SKC's defensive midfield dating back to their Wizards days, Espinoza has suffered a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) sprain in his left knee and will miss two to three months, though the issue will not require surgery.
And the prognosis is worst for Wallace, as the fullback/winger requires a surgical procedure to his right hip and is expected to miss four to six months of action.
