Sporting Kansas City's Wan Kuzain came out on top by a 5-2 aggregate scoreline over Nashville SC's Hany Mukhtar as the pair squared off in a three-match FIFA 20 showdown.
Mukhtar had the lead after a 1-0 first-leg victory thanks to a goal from David Accam, but the pair found themselves level 2-2 on aggregate after Kuzain took the second leg 2-1. That led to a third-leg tiebreaker, which saw Kuzain cruise to a 3-0 result and take home the victory.
Mukhtar got out to the aggregate lead in the first leg courtesy of Accam's goal, which the Nashville SC man assisted with himself.
Mukhtar then struck first in the second leg, scoring with himself with a laser shot in the 8th minute to push the aggregate advantage to 2-0.
But Kuzain would find the scoresheet on 20 minutes with a rebound finish from Felipe Gutierrez to pull within a single goal. Kuzain would then force the decisive third match in dramatic fashion, slotting home a second of the match with Gutierrez in the 104th minute to level the aggregate score at 2-2.
Kuzain struck first in the 25th minute of the third match, finishing off a nifty counterattack with Alan Pulido to take the 3-2 aggregate-goal advantage. It would stay that way until the 64th minute, when Kuzain added another through Gutierrez to give himself a two-goal cushion. Pulido then provided the dagger with an 88th minute rocket golazo from outside the box, sealing the 5-2 aggregate victory for Kuzain.
It's the second straight victory for Kuzain, who made his competitive FIFA 20 debut with a sound two-leg victory over Real Salt Lake goalkeeper David Ochoa.
