Daniel Salloi will be sidelined for with an ankle injury, Sporting Kansas City head coach Peter Vermes confirmed Thursday.
The winger led SKC in goals last season but has been limited to just two substitute appearances in league play at the start of 2019. This comes a day after the club announced striker Erik Hurtado would be out for 2-3 months while recovering from knee surgery.
The 22-year-old bagged 11 goals and seven assists in a breakout 2018 campaign in which SKC scored a franchise-record 65 goals.
“He is actually progressing pretty well. We blew his ankle out,” Vermes said to The Blue Testament about the injury. “He turned his ankle, did a pretty good job of it. It could be anywhere up to maybe six weeks. I don’t forsee it being the full six weeks, but it could be.”
Still, without much of an impact from Salloi yet this season, SKC are off to a 1-1-1 start in MLS play and have advanced to the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions League.
