Sporting Kansas City and Marcel de Jong mutually agreed to part ways on Tuesday, the club announced.
De Jong spent one year with SKC, tallying one goal and one assist in 15 appearances across all competitions with the club in 2015. The 29-year-old Canadian international came to Sporting last preseason after spending the first 10 years of his pro career in the Netherlands and Germany.
Tuesday’s move opens up an international slot on the SKC roster, which now stands at 25 players ahead of their 2016 MLS season opener on Sunday at the Seattle Sounders (7 pm ET; FS1, FOX Deportes).
