Numerous European clubs inquired but ultimately failed to acquire Portland Timbers and US national team forward Jeremy Ebobisse this winter, sources tell MLSsoccer.com.
Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht and German second division side Dusseldorf initiated negotiations but were unsuccessful. Belgian side Zulte Waregem submitted a loan offer which was rejected while Beerschot inquired about Ebobisse on deadline day.
There are a number of other clubs monitoring Ebobisse from England, Spain and the Netherlands though none have yet held serious talks with either Portland or Ebobisse's camp.
Ebobisse, 23, was selected No. 4 overall in the 2017 SuperDraft by Portland and broke through to be an invaluable member of Gio Savarese's squad. The forward, capable of playing through the center or out wide, has 22 goals and eight assists in his MLS career. In 2020, Ebobisse had eight goals and two assists in 1,062 minutes on the field.
With the US national team, Ebobisse is eligible for the Olympics should the country qualify and the games be held despite the COVID-19 pandemic. He was a member of the United States' squad at the 2017 U-20 World Cup and earned his senior debut in 2019.
