Nicolas Lodeiro had some fun back home in Uruguay over the weekend, as the Seattle Sounders star joined a long list of luminaries taking part in Diego Forlan's testimonial match – and he scored a golazo to boot.
A celebration of Forlan's long and glittering career as he shifts into management with Peñarol, the occasion at Montevideo's Estadio Centenario featured many of his friends, countrymen and former teammates, including the likes of Luis Suarez – who, in a cheeky turnabout, played goalkeeper – Juan Roman Riquelme, Juan Sebastian Veron, Javier Zanetti, former Chicago Fire midfielder Egidio Arevalo Rios and pro golfer Sergio Garcia.
Lodeiro produced one of the most sublime moments of a goal-happy evening when he lashed home a trademark left-footed strike from long range, blasting his shot off the underside of the crossbar with such fury that it caromed out of the net after crossing the goal line.
The match ended 6-6.
