Sounders duo highlight 26-player roster for USMNT U-17 training camp

The Seattle Sounders duo of Danny Leyva and Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez highlight a 26-player roster called into a training camp by U.S. Under-17 national team coach Raphael Wicky, US Soccer announced Tuesday.


Also part of the camp, which runs from July 26 to Aug. 7 at Dignity Health Sports Complex in Carson, Calif. are Colorado Rapids defender Sebastian Anderson, who scored his first MLS goal in a 2-1 loss to NYCFC Saturday, D.C. United forward Griffin Yow, San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Gilbert Fuentes and Sporting Kansas City forward Tyler Freeman, who scored his first pro goal July 18 for Swope Park Rangers vs. Hartford. 


MLS academies are well represented with goalkeeper Seth Wilson and defender Nicolas Carrera from the FC Dallas academy, defenders Mauricio Cuevas, who made his professional debut for Los Dos May 30 vs. Tacoma, and Kobe Hernandez and midfielder Adam Saldana, who each helped LA Galaxy U-16/17 to the Academy semifinals, defender Tayvon Gray and forward Andres Jasson, who helped lead NYCFC’s U-18/19 to its second-straight national title, midfielder Ethan Dobbelaere from the Seattle Sounders academy, midfielder Bryang Kayo representing D.C. United’s academy, goalkeeper Damian Las from the Chicago Fire’s academy and forward Jack de Vries from Philadelphia Union’s academy.


The U-17s will face two USL Championship teams during its training camp: Orange County Soccer Club July 31 at 11:30 a.m. at Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine, Calif. and Los Dos Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. at Dignity Health Sports Park.


The US were drawn into Group D in the 2019 U-17 World Cup, which takes place this fall in Brazil, along with Senegal, Japan and the Netherlands.
