Snow in September? Colorado Rapids, Houston Dynamo face wintry forecast Wednesday

Colorado Rapids - 2019 - grounds crew shoveling snow

Wait, snow?

Wintry conditions are in the forecast preceding Wednesday evening’s match at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, as the Colorado Rapids prepare to host the Houston Dynamo (9 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US, on DAZN in Canada).

Clear skies should return by kickoff, but there might be leftover snow on the sidelines. Nothing like a Rocky Mountain welcome for the Texas-based club.

Colorado played the last snow game in MLS, a 3-3 draw against the Portland Timbers on March 2, 2019. That came on season-opening weekend, so the grounds crew in Commerce City is no stranger to shoveling off their grass surface. But snow in September as summer comes to a close? That’s unheard of, especially considering it’s supposed to reach the 80s this coming weekend.

Looking historically, the Rapids have played in six snow games and have a 3W-2L-1D record. That orange ball was pulled out some, though that might not await when the Dynamo come to town Wednesday.

If Mother Nature cooperates or doesn’t, the Rapids are looking for their first victory amid a six-game winless streak. It’s the complete opposite for Houston, a club that’s won three straight and is surging as head coach Tab Ramos continues to instill his philosophy.
