TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Signing
News of the impending departure of Columbus Crew SC midfielder Artur were, as it turned out, greatly exaggerated.
It appeared last week that the 21-year-old Brazilian would be returning to Sao Paolo FC following a year-long loan spell in Ohio, but on Tuesday Crew SC announced that they had secured a permanent deal for 2018.
“Artur was one of the most promising young players in MLS last season and completing his transfer from Sao Paulo FC was one of our priorities this offseason,” Crew coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter said in the club statement announcing the transfer. “We are happy that he has committed his future to the club and we look forward to beginning our work together on a successful 2018 campaign.”
Artur contributed three assists during the regular season, before scoring his first goal for Columbus in a 4-1 victory over New York City FC in the first leg of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
