Former Atlanta United midfielder Pity Martinez is being linked to a move to FC Cincinnati, but the Extratime crew debated whether or not he would be a good fit for the Ohio-based team, entering its third MLS season.
"If you need him to be there week in, week out, to be your [Nico] Lodeiro, he's never been that," Matt Doyle said on the latest episode of Extratime. "Even with River Plate, he wasn't that. He's a really hot and cold player, and if you're a team like Cincinnati, I would question the decision to pay the money it would take to bring him in because again, a really hot and cold player. Cincinnati doesn't need that. They need consistency."
While agreeing Martinez, who transferred to Al-Nassr FC in September, may not be worth a price tag as high as $15 million, David Gass thinks there is potential for a success between Cincinnati and the former South American Player of the Year, who struggled to find his niche in 39 regular season games with Atlanta.
"I would wonder, and I'm not sure about any of this, [about] the fit there being better," Gass said about Cincinnati. "More of a counter attacking team, so more room for him to play in transition, less playing against packed in defenses, and what Atlanta went through."
