Costa Rica national team head coach Gustavo Matosas has named his roster for an upcoming friendly against Uruguay, and seven current MLS players are among those selected.
FC Cincinnati duo Kendall Waston and Allan Cruz, LA Galaxy defender Giancarlo Gonzalez, Chicago Fire defender Francisco Calvo, NYCFC defender Ronald Matarrita, and Columbus Crew SC duo David Guzman and Luis Diaz got the nod for the friendly, which will take place on Sept. 6 in the Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Los Ticos are coming off a 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup in which they were knocked out in the quarterfinal, falling short of expectations, albeit taking eventual champion Mexico to the limit before falling in a penalty shootout in the final eight.
This year, Costa Rica have posted a 3-4-1 record in their senior squad men's games across all competitions. They will use the friendly to tune up ahead of the start of the inaugural Concacaf Nations League, where they'll play Gold Cup upstarts Haiti and Curacao in League A, Group D beginning in October.
Costa Rica's opponent will include one MLS player, LAFC newcomer Brian Rodriguez, fresh off his MLS debut.
