TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Rumor
It’s not official quite yet, with his club yet to confirm, but Roman Torres announced his re-signing with the Seattle Sounders on Monday morning in his own inimitable style.
After weeks of hints and promising signs about a new deal, Seattle’s hulking center back posted a brief video on his Twitter account in which he happily confirmed to Sounders and Panama fans alike that he’ll be in Rave Green for two more years, at least.
Last month the veteran center back told reporters at MLS Media Day in Los Angeles that he is “close to finishing a new contract with Seattle” and that he hopes “to stay here in MLS for many more years.”
Torres, 31, signed with Seattle in the summer of 2015 and wrote his name in club history when he scored the decisive penalty kick that won MLS Cup 2016 for the Sounders. Last season he appeared in 23 regular-season and four playoff matches to help the team make a second straight appearance at MLS Cup, where they fell to Toronto FC at BMO Field.
The longtime Panama international played a huge role in helping his country qualify for their first-ever World Cup, scoring the goal that clinched their berth in Russia 2018.
